OVOLO LANEWAYS

Ovolo Laneways is by no means your usual Melbourne CBD boutique hotel.

Nestled in a small pocket of the Paris end of the city, Ovolo Laneways celebrates all things Melbourne, including its bustling street art scene. Ovolo Group is known for their award-winning interiors, so when they approached Neon Pear to produce custom work on their Laneways hotel, we jumped at the chance.

We worked with the management team of Laneways to produce large format custom murals located at the entrance of each floor. A total of four original photography wall decals were designed and installed, inviting guests to step out of the lift and into a wide angled shot of a Melbourne Laneway. We deliberately chose iconic Melbourne laneways such as Hosier Lane and Tattersalls Lane as the locations for the photoshoot.

Taking into consideration the mood elements of the existing decor in the hotel, we kept the wall imagery monotone and utilised the existing light boxes to highlight a pop of street art colour in each design. The finished product showcases an exclusively Melbourne atmosphere while keeping on brand with the hotels ‘laneway’ point of difference. Each wall decal is finished with a large ‘graffiti’ number to correspond with the floor level.

The second brief received from the client was to create a large scale street art mural, preferably completed by local artists. We collaborated with Mike Eleven and Russkid, two prominent Melbourne Street artists, to commission a large wall mural for the Ovolo Laneways penthouse terrace. The penthouse never looked so cool.
